Description:

These are the current stand boundaries that cover all forested areas across the OSMP system. Forest inventories and management projects fall within these boundaries. The stands were drawn based on aerial photos, topography, and the OSMP vegetation map. They are units with a homogenous composition of tree species and density (forest, woodland, or savannah) and a consistent aspect across the stand area. They range in size from about 5 acres to 100 acres.

The stands are identified with a six digit alpha-numeric code which can be found in the "STAND" sttribute of the table. This stand name is a unique identifier that is used for inventory data. All the overstory and understory data collected in the stands is stored in the OSMP Forest Inventory database, which can be found here: S:\OSMP\ECO_SYSTEMS\FOREST ECOLOGY\Databases and software\Databases\Forest Inv Database on OSMPGIS3.mdb

Attributes for stand charateristics such as tree density, age, height, diamater, etc can also be found in this database and linked to the stand dataset using the STAND field . Inventory points associated with the stands can be found in sdeMonitoring.DBO.ForestMonitoringPlots.

The stand boundaries are fairly consistent and should not change over time.
